Where we are
The FieldPhen platform at the CREA‑CI Research Centre in Foggia is a high‑throughput field phenotyping platform specialized in small‑grain cereals (bread and durum wheat, other wheats, einkorn, emmer, spelt, barley, and oats), with the possibility of drip irrigation in both small plots and large plots. FieldPhen provides services using four drones (remotely piloted aircraft): two equipped with a dual Sentera 4K five‑band multispectral sensor, a 24‑MP RGB camera, and an RGB Zenmuse X5 sensor; and two others, operated in collaboration with the CNR, one equipped with a Headwall Photonics hyperspectral camera and the other with a thermal camera
Developed to support and innovate plant (cereal) breeding processes—an area in which the researchers have long‑standing expertise—FieldPhen is available for breeding and genotype‑selection services targeting traits related to yield sustainability, pathogen resistance, and tolerance to abiotic stresses. In parallel, the field phenotyping platform can be used to provide services to companies producing agrochemical and biological products, enabling field trials to assess the effectiveness of new and established products under different water regimes and nutrient scenarios.

Services are delivered through replicated field plot trials, in which one or more treatments (e.g., water, nitrogen) can be applied, along with the acquisition and analysis of digital phenotypes using the available instruments.
