SW & TS Training Sessions 2026

Quantifying Biotic and Abiotic Stress in Plants

From 18 to 22 May 2026, as part of the European project PHENOWEX and in collaboration with PHEN‑ITALY, CNR‑IPSP is organising a training week dedicated to understanding how plants respond to stress, both those caused by living organisms – insects, fungi, bacteria – and those related to environmental factors such as heat, drought, or soil quality.

The training programme aims to provide skills in stress biology, the use of advanced analytical and imaging tools, and the correct interpretation of data.
The activities are structured into two complementary tracks:
  • SW Session (18–20 May) – dedicated to biotic stress. The programme covers plant diseases, harmful insects, chemical communication through VOCs, defence signalling, and experimental case studies. Practical activities and a visit to the archaeological site of Ercolano are also included.
  • TS Session (20–22 May) – focused on abiotic stress and the most advanced technologies for analysing it. Topics include artificial intelligence applied to phenotyping, satellite‑based analyses, and X‑ray micro‑CT imaging to observe the internal structure of seeds. The programme also features visits to research facilities such as ALSIA Metaponto and INFRA‑VOL, with demonstrations and hands‑on sessions.
Scientific Committee: Monti M.M., Moscatelli S., Palomba F., Ruocco M.
